About John Kohlmoos
FORMAL EDUCATION: BA from the University of California at Davis in English. In a typical juxtaposition, also started at wide receiver and lettered in football for three years; serving as captain his senior season. Stayed at Davis, earning a Secondary Teaching Credential and serving as an assistant varsity football coach (receivers).
ADVENTUROUS EDUCATION (Educational Adventures): as the self-proclaimed “existential hero,” spent the next six years roaming–overland from Kathmandu to London, throughout Southeast Asia, Australia (hitchhiking over 10,000 miles, suffering as a bricklayer’s laborer, working on a sailboat running charters on the Great Barrier Reef, and, most fortuitously, meeting the woman to whom he is married, fellow Sotheby’s broker and partner, Sandy), across Europe by bicycle; studied Spanish in Guatemala, then ventured for a year through Latin America to the end of the Pan American highway in Chile. He spent six months on a sailboat in the Caribbean, then worked three seasons with Club Mediteranee as director of tennis in the French West Indies (Guadeloupe), and Mexico (Cancun) and as a ski instructor in Switzerland (St. Moritz).
Moved to Lake Tahoe; working for five years as a USPTA certified tennis professional in summer and a PSIA-W ski instructor in winter. Advised that it was “time to grow up,” began his sales, marketing, and management career, working for the next 15 years in the windsurf and snowboard industries.
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE: began real estate career in 1999; managed the sales teams for one of the most progressive builders in the northwest. Gained extensive experience in the planning, selling, and marketing of “mixed use” communities. Earned CMP, CSP, and MIRM (one of only seven in the state of Oregon) designations. In 2004, shifted focus and returned to his roots of “selling lifestyle” and working with the startups/ early development of three of Central Oregon’s most prominent destination resorts–Pronghorn, Brasada Ranch, and Tetherow. Presently partnered at Cascade Sotheby’s with Aussie wife, Sandy.
PERSONAL: an avid and talented windsurfer, snowboarder, and tennis player; a keen (but crappy) golfer. The proud parent of Cassidy–an honors graduate at UCSB, presently using her expensive education to teach skiing in Jackson Hole, Wyoming; and Cody—a tennis player and graduate of University of Montana in Missoula, now a teaching pro at The Vintage Club in Indian Wells. Both Cody and Cassidy graduated from Summit High School in Bend.
