The Tetherow Golf Club, the cornerstone amenity for the community of Tetherow in Bend Oregon, is offering a clever (and fun) promotion for the month of April. It’s called “pay the temperature,” and allows one to play the fabulous David McLay Kidd track at Tetherow at a potentially incredible (and chilly!) discount.
Tetherow “Pay the Temperature” . . . how it works
Normal rates for for a round of golf at Tetherow (voted recently by Golf Magazine as “the best new course you can play”) are $185. For the month of April, rates are based on the highest forecast temperature for the day in Bend Oregon according to the weather gurus at KTVZ. As an example,
if one were to play on Wednesday, the rate would be only $47 (high temperature forecast at 47 degrees . . . perhaps a little brisk) plus $20 for the mandatory fore caddy. Quite a deal! To play on Friday, would run $59 plus caddy.
Last Thursday
For true outdoor aficionados, last Thursday was perhaps the day of the year (and the ideal day to take advantage of Tetherow’s promotion) . . . a freak snowstorm dropped a totally unexpected 6 creamy inches at Mt. Bachelor (a mere 17 minutes up the road from Tetherow) with a bluebird 9:00 AM temperature of 19 degrees on the summit.
Afternoon at the Tetherow Golf Club saw continued blue skies, a light breeze, and a high of 63 degrees. What could be better? The perfect scenario for completing the ultimate Bend Oregon “daily double” . . . riding fresh powder in the morning, world class golf in the afternoon. To me, that’s what is meant by “lifestyle.”

Today, Tetherow has been drastically affected by the economic downtown . . . meaning some very attractive opportunities for potential buyers. Homesites, some featuring mountain and golf vistas and running a third to a half an acre, now start at around $175,000. Tetherow Golf Cub memberships are included with many of them.
