There are certain events that become part of the fabric of the Bend Oregon lifestyle . . . Pole, Pedal Paddle, the Cascade Cycling Classic, the Brewfest; add to those the performances at the Les Schwab Amphitheater, specifically Norah Jones in August.
The Show
The daughter of Ravi Shankar (I didn’t know that) didn’t disappoint the over 5000 fans sprawled on the rolling green grass of the venue on the bank of the Deschutes River. The freeloaders . . . SUP’ers, kayakers, strollers, and patrons of the riverfront restaurants also got a treat.
You’re right . . . that wasn’t Norah; it was Cory Chisel and the Wandering Sons.
Norah Jones
She opened with her classic, “Come Away with Me.” Then “charmed her way through a well-paced 90 minute set.”
The music was sublime but the setting was even better. A mellow crowd
enjoyed the sunset and wine (a friend worked in one of the booths serving the fine vino . . . she couldn’t move her arm the next day, suffering an overuse injury from too much corkscrew!).
The 90 minute set showcased Jones’s talent and offered a variety of new songs. She kept her badinage to a minimum. She did get a chuckle with, “Looks like a very nice town from my innertube floating down the river. I did not expect to do that today when I woke up . . . That was fun!”
Next up . . . Huey Lewis and the News.
