Musings of a mutt . . . Bend Oregon dog parks!

by Rocco (posthumously) on March 23, 2011

While I grew up in one of the swankiest gated communities and live in one of the nicest homes in Bend Oregon, at heart, I’m just a pooch.  I know that my aristocratic air and erect carriage are a bit misleading. Reality is I’m a dog who likes to pee where he wants, scratch what he wants, and bark whenever he wants at whomever he wants.  That’s just the way life is.

I like to occasionally scare the kids or joggers in my neighborhood, but I’d never leave the confines of my yard without my master’s permission.  It might have something to do with the invisible fence that zaps me.  I used to love to romp in the woods and wild areas near my house, chasing real game like deer and rabbits and squirrels.  Once I even met a group of coyotes out there.  I can’t roam the same way there anymore . . . now it’s a really neat golf course community called Tetherow.

My master is always telling me how real estate in Bend Oregon has changed. Well, I’d like to tell him a thing or two . . . the canine landscape has changed also.  Seems like every household has two dogs. And now we’ve even got dog parks!

My favorite doesn’t even require a leash! It features a great location on the Westside of Bend (“little California” according to the New York Times . . . but that’s another story), with river frontage and safe doggy swimming access (I’m a terrier; I don’t swim well). It sits directly across from Deschutes Landing, a great townhome community. It’s got wonderful views of the river and the iconic smoke stacks at the Old Mill District.

I love to gavotte (from my favorite Carly Simon song, “You’re So Vain”) through town, across the Southern Crossing Bridge,

down to the park to hang with my mates or ogle the bitches.

Not All About Scratching and Sniffing

It is important, however, to remember that it’s not all about sniffing and scratching and mindless free for all, for there is etiquette involved at the Bend Oregon dog park. We all need to act with a bit of propriety.
