Thanksgiving at Mt. Bachelor
Hard to imagine a better opening day than Mt. Bachelor’s on Thanksgiving!
Best Opening Day Ever
Even at my advanced age, the anticipation (“Dad, you get all weird on a powder day” my kids used to say) was almost too much, and I had to cool it on the drive from the Broken Top community up the hill.
Bluebird Bachelor
Bluebird, almost two feet of new snow, cold temperatures . . . in short, mid-winter conditions in November! Mt. Bachelor even opened the lifts at 8:45 AM . . . a stroke of customer service genius, and an added bonus for hungry powder hounds.
Another Reason We Live in Bend
Mt. Bachelor, just 22 miles from Bend Oregon, offers over 3700 acres of lift-accessed terrain with 3365 feet of vertical drop. The summit is at 9065 feet.
The mountain features 7 quads, 3 triple chairlifts, 2 magic carpets, and a couple of tubing lifts.
Tofurkey
It’s not unusual for regulars to leave town at 8:15, be on the first chair at 9:00, rip it up for a couple of hours and still be back in town for work or a tofurkey Thanksgiving dinner.
Just another reason why we live in Bend!
