Tetherow Hotel
An article in the Bend Bulletin last week stated that developers are poised to begin construction on a couple of hotel buildings located just east and west of Tetherow’s classic northwest lodge style clubhouse.
The sites selected for the Tetherow Hotel should afford wonderful views of the David Kidd-designed 18 hole track, as well as extended vistas to the north featuring shots of Mt. Jefferson and Mt. Hood.
Destination Resort Overlay
The two Tetherow Hotel buildings (one with 26 units, the other with 24) represent a huge step forward, and will help to fulfill the state’s “destination resort overlay” zoning requirement; one that mandates one “overnight key” (an overnight lodging unit available to the general public for rent) for every two single family homesites platted.
This lodging requirement, which has proven difficult for other destination resorts to fulfill, is partially an effort to prevent those evil “sagebrush subdivisions.”
Management at Tetherow Speaks
Chris Vandervelde (owner of the Tetherow Clubhouse, golf course, and 58 lots in the Glen Neighborhood of Tetherow) said that, “in 4-6 weeks you’ll see things going vertical.”
No Specifics at Tetherow
Vandervelde gave little detail on the hotel at Tetherow, promising only that a formal announcement would be forthcoming.
12 Homes under Construction at Tetherow
As the weather improves and we roll towards spring (the Tetherow golf course is set to open on 3/29),
sales/ building activity has picked up. There are presently 12 new homes under construction.
Recent sales have included a resale on the second hole at $1.1 million,
as well as a spec residence at $829,000. There have also been a flurry of recent homesite sales.

Despite the “formal announcement forthcoming,” rumor has it that the developer for the Tetherow Hotel is none other than Joe Weston, a prominent Portland real estate investor with deep (and very successful) roots in Central Oregon. Remember, you saw it here first!
