We always rave about what a great place Bend is . . . thought I’d do sort of a “two days in the life” to help illustrate.
Friday Morning
Ripped it early at Mt. Bachelor (7″ of new snow, OK visibility)
. . . 12000 vertical feet in a couple of hours; easy to do when the mountain is a mere 20 minutes away and there are no lift lines! Showered and clean shaven (some would say “pretty”) before noon.
Friday Afternoon
Off to a (successful) listing presentation.
The rest of the afternoon is spent taking care of bank details and completing the refinance of a rental property.
Social hour kicks in at five with a COAR event at Good Life Brewing Company . . . an opportunity to network, and, more importantly, quaff a couple of frosty IPA’s with fellow Realtors.
Then it’s downtown to “Sweet Saigon” . . . a little authentic Vietnamese “pho” in the heart of Bend (quite the juxtaposition!).
Saturday Morning
Up early . . . it’s clear after a couple of snowy, wicked visibility, wonderful powder days. 23″ of snow over three days! A quick breakfast of soy sausages and coffee. Then off to the mountain, listening to John Grisham’s southern accent on books on tape. The drive seems to take only a few minutes.
I’m just a bit hyper as I pull into the parking lot. Put on my boots and suit up. It’s only 8:50 and the Skyliner chair is already open . . . now I’m just stoked.
Amazingly, the Summit is open too . . . first time in a week. At 9:10 AM, we head over the back
poaching lines of untracked blower
all the way to the catch line. Then it’s “Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride” . . . looping around the mountain to the Northwest lift.
The remainder of the morning is passed cavorting in the trees of Peckerwoods.
Saturday Afternoon
Rush down the mountain, again accompanied by John Grisham, in time to get to work at Tetherow by noon
. . . there are worse places to be; things are busy and the afternoon passes quickly.
Head home at 5:00 PM, pop a PBR tallboy (that’s what all snowboarders drink!) and settle down to watch the Ducks
thoroughly dominate St. Louis to move into the sweet sixteen.
A quiet evening at home, a shared bottle of Chardonnay with just a hint of oak.
Not a bad life.
Bend . . . “the best place you’ll ever go”
A bit of a younger voice, but this video pretty much sums it up!
