Bend Home Sales Increase in May
Perhaps a glimmer of light at the end of the proverbial tunnel. Central Oregon MLS released data this week indicating a slight uptick in activity. Despite the uncertain economy, Bend home sales increased for the month of May . . . up almost 14% over April’s figures. The upswing saw 135 sales for the month. That number likewise exceeds the 115 houses sold from the same month in 2008.
Median Price in Bend
Surprisingly, the median price also increased by a robust 11% to $217,000. That number is welcome, as the median price is often drawn downward by the increase in short sale and REO activity. I’m sorry this is so boring. We’ll throw in some pictures of some animals to liven things up . . . almost everybody likes elk.
Not So Rosy in Redmond
The picture wasn’t quite so rosy in Redmond. Though sales did rise a hefty 33% from the previous month, the median price fell to $156,000; that’s a drop of more than 10% from April, and a startling 37% from a year ago.
Median price per square foot (a measure sometimes thought to be more meaningful by Realtors) rose a bit to just over $106 . . . still off by almost 33% from a year ago.
Personally, I try not to put too much stock into all these numbers . . . instead, I try to focus on the positives. I know that things will improve with Bend home sales; in the meantime, I like to think about the reasons we’ve all chosen to live in Central Oregon.
